Kasama College of Education

About Department

The Literacy and Language Education Section is an academic section in the college. The section is currently manned by the Head of Section and eight (8) highly qualified senior lecturers, bringing the total number of teaching staff to 9. It has two complementary subjects, namely: English Language and Zambian Languages. The two complementary subjects make up Literacy and Language Education.

This subject is offered to all Primary Teachers’ Diploma students from first year to third year. Communication and Study Skills, which is a stand alone subject, is offered to Secondary Teachers’ Diploma students at first year level only. Under degree programmes, the section offers Literacy and Language Education as a component of the Bachelor of Education Degree in Primary Education [B. Ed.-Primary], and Communication and Study Skills, English Language, Zambian Languages, and Literature in English for the Bachelor of Education Degree - Secondary [B. Ed.-Secondary]. The courses offered in this section enable graduate teachers teach English Language and Zambian Languages competently and effectively.

In addition, Communication and Study Skills impart knowledge and skills needed for graduate teachers to handle other subjects effectively. Moreover, teachers who need to pursue further studies to obtain higher qualifications will find Communication and Study Skills beneficial as they take up research activities in institutions of higher learning.
